Red wines make up 30% of production at the Cantina Sociale. Among the red Trentino wines two originate from native grape varieties: Marzemino and Teroldego.
Marzemino is cultivated above all in the Volano area to the south of Trento. The Teroldego from the Cantina Sociale on the other hand is grown in the hills near the city.
Areas selected to produce red wines are those characterised by a warmer microclimate, generally between at an altitude of between 200 and 400 m ASL with moraine terraces and alluvial fans that stretch from slopes of Mount Marzola, Vigolana and Mount to the valley floor, vineyards where oenological experience has taught that excellent maturation can be achieved to bring out the best in red wines.
