Gewürztraminer Trentino Doc Goccia d'Oro
Trentino
Denominazione di origine protetta
GRAPE VARIETY
The origins of this grape have to be found in Central Europe. The colour of the skin is pink, but we obtain a white wine.
Gewürztraminer is not an easy grape to grow, the yields are poor, and it is mutant, as there are many different clones.
PRODUCTION AREA
This grape is very exigent in terms of soil and weather conditions, so that it is cultivated in small areas in Trentino. It gives the best results on gravelly soils, not calcareous; the vines need a good sun exposure and a cold-temperate climate.
Winemaking
Determining the optimum moment for picking is crucial to obtain maximum sugar concentration in the grapes without losing the variety’s aromatic qualities.
Once the berries are de-stemmed and crushed, the mass is chilled and the juice is kept in contactwith the skins for a short period, to enrich it with varietal aromas. The fermentation takes place at
constant temperature of 17-19°C. The wine ages on the fine lees for a few weeks.
Description
Golden yellow in colour, aromatic on the nose with notes of rose and cloves. Mineral, persistent and aromatic on the mouth. It profits from an ageing in bottle.
Serving temperature: 10 – 12°C.
