The Cantina Sociale di Trento wines are produced in
Trentino Doc zones. White, red, rosé and sparkling wines all come from grapes that are grown in these
controlled designation of origin DOC areas which ensures the quality of products.
Trentino and its characteristics
Trentino is in the north-eastern part of the Alps and borders the province of Bolzano to the north, Lombardy to the west and Veneto to the south-east and covers a surface area of 6,207 km₂. The area is predominantly mountainous with 20% located at an altitude of more than 2,000 m ASL and 50% is covered in forests.
In orographic terms Trentino is located in the heart of the Dolomites that originated from hilly settlements on the seafloor dating back around 10 million years ago; recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site in 2009, this uniquely beautiful place also has a soil with particular and unique characteristics.
The vineyards and growing native grape varieties
In Trentino the
climatic and geological conditions are ideal for grape growing : to the north the Dolomites protect the region from cold winds while to the south, Lake Garda mitigates the temperature. The big difference between day-time and night-time temperatures, the abundance of rain and ideal temperatures during the growing season make it possible to grow and harvest excellent grapes.
Thanks to these really unique conditions in Trentino there are some amazing local grape varieties that originated in this region like Teroldego, Marzemino and Nosiola.
